Shopping malls

Shopping mallsAmong Singapore’s many malls, VivoCity is the largest. Just a 5-minute jaunt from Sentosa (take the Sentosa Express light rail system), it boasts of more than 300 retailers, an outdoor amphitheatre, a 20,000 sq.ft. open plaza and a 300m harbour front promenade – making it Singapore’s largest retail, entertainment and lifestyle destination.

For more focused shopping, be sure to check out Singapore’s IT shopping scene that’s jam-packed along the aisles of Sim Lim Square and Funan Digitalife Mall. A wide range of computer-related goods and accessories are scattered across different levels of both buildings.

Gadget geeks will find the area around Funan Digitalife Mall worth further exploration. Across the road at The Adelphi, audiophiles can find a rich number of shops dealing in respected hi-fi brands, while Peninsula Plaza is home to established camera shops such as Cathay Photo Store.

Opt for a more casual shopping experience and head over to Bugis. Parco Bugis Junction is Singapore’s first glass-covered, air-conditioned shopping complex, set in a nostalgic architectural surrounding. It houses a Cineplex and various affordable fashion outlets, jewelry stores, and even electrical appliances shops.

Alternatively, cross over to the Bugis Street Market for more streetwear and eclectic fashion options. This bazaar is especially popular with youth for its wide and relatively cheap range of apparel, shoes, accessories and touristy knick knacks. Prepare to jostle your way through the crowd as it gets especially busy during the weekends.

Don’t miss Singapore’s own shopping haven, Orchard Road. Unleash your inner shopaholic as you lose yourself in this popular shopping belt, both outdoors and underground. Flanked by endless malls, you can find everything from high-end designer buys boutiques to departmental stores, outdoor cafes, restaurants and cineplexes. The area is also especially breathtaking during Christmas season, with colorful and dazzling light displays along the roads.
